This is a blog for Words: The Ten Commandments. Greetings!
Long before the Ten Commandments were printed on a page in our Bibles, they were copied by hand into individual books. Long before individual books, they were written on scrolls to be unrolled and read by the community. Long before the Ten Commandments were put into writing —in Hebrew, Greek, Latin—they were preserved orally as people remembered and retold them again and again. Long before the Ten Commandments were written in the pages of scripture they were carved on two tablets and carried down from the mountain, words spoken from the mouth of God, from the God who had said “Let there be light,” from the God who had said “I am.”
God speaks in the Ten Commandments, which begins with the proclamation “God spoke, and these were his words.” Ultimately God speaks through the One known as the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who is also known as the Word of God.
What is amazing is that God continues to speak. God speaks to you! God speaks to you in the ancient words of the Bible; God speaks to you in the words of those around you; God speaks to you in the most intimate ways in your heart and mind; God speaks to you in the continuing presence of Jesus Christ.
But remember, whenever someone is speaking, someone has to be listening. When God speaks, are you listening? This blog is a way to focus on the ways you listen for God, a way to guide your reading and discovery of the contemporary meaning of the Ten Commandments. Other students from all over the United States and Canada who are studying this same course will also be posting to this blog. What are they thinking? What are they feeling? This LOGOS blog will connect you to each other.
Use WORDS each week to: LISTEN to those around you, READ God’s word to you [all Scripture references in this blog are hyperlinked to www.biblegateway.com for your convenience], DEFINE key words of belief and action, HEAR others speak of God to you, INTERPRET what you are studying, and EXPRESS your commitment to God.
I love LOGOS. It is so much fun
Great to hear it Andrew!
