Session one- day 4
Jesus lived by the Ten Commandments. One day he was asked “What is the most important commandment. Jesus responded by saying, “The most important one says: ‘People of Israel, you have only one Lord and God. You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. The second most important commandment says: ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is more important than these.” [Mark 12:28-34] This is known as The Great Commandment.
In fact, when Jesus was teaching the Sermon on the Mount, he expanded upon God’s commandments, saying, “Don’t suppose that I came to do away with the Law and the Prophets. I did not come to do away with the, but to give them their full meaning. Heaven and earth may disappear, but I promise you that not even a period or comma will ever disappear from the Law. Everything written in it must happen. If you reject even the least important command in the Law and teach others to do the same, you will be the least important person in the kingdom of heaven. But if you obey and teach others its commands, you will have an important place in the kingdom. You must obey God’s commands better than the Pharisee and the teachers of the Law obey them. If you don’t, I promise you that you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 5.17-20] Pretty harsh. Pretty firm. To follow Jesus is to live by the Ten Commandments and the Great Commandment. So, what do these words of Jesus mean to you?
that in order to get into heaven you must obey the ten commandments and the great commandments and if you dont and you them laws you wont go to heaven you would go to hell and spend an eternity there but if you do obey them teach other people about that you would go to heaven
So why don’t we ever think that the Ten Commandments are good for us? Is God only a stern, mean judge waiting to slam you for any rule you break? What happened to the God of Love? My God is one of love who seeks to help us, the children, know what is best for us. I operate on the idea that God knows what is best for me and wants to show me the right way to go. I obey because of God’s love for me, rather than out of fear.
I think that God is a God of Love, and that is why the two greatest commandments are love you God and love your neighbor, if if you do that all of the 10 commandments you will have to follow, because you don’t kill someone you love, you don’t steal from someone you love. But it is hard. God loves us and we are suppose to love each other, but when people don’t do what God desires from them and they don’t believe, like Kenneth said, they get punished, just like in school when we don’t do our home work we get a bad grade or when we don’t show up for practice we get in trouble by our coaches. It isn’t because our teachers and coaches don’t care about us, if they didn’t care about us they would care what we did. I don’t know what does everyone else think?
